Spent two days in Delhi to start off my adventure in India!
I arrived in Delhi the night of Feb. 1 and spent two nights in the city attending orientations and getting to know my fellow SIT students. Besides going to a school each day for health, mental health and culture orientations we visited Raj Ghat

Plaque at one of the entrances to the Gandhi memorial at Raj Ghat in Delhi

Eternal flame and "Hey Ram" written in Devanagari at Gandhi's memorial site

A view of Delhi from the school we had orientation at.

Gorgeous mustard was growing all over on the drive from Delhi to Jaipur.

Delicious food on the way to Jaipur. I can't recall the name of the place but it was kind of cafeteria style with a lot of options! 4 of us got three plates including South Indian (top right with a dosa, a crepe type thing made of fermented rice and filled with seasoned potatoes, a pancake sort of thing with green onions fried into the side and more), Naan and various curries and dals, a Chinese platter that included General Tsao's veg style made with fries and some delicious noodles. Any Indian meal would be incomplete without the sweets and with these platters we got gulab jamun (doughnut hole in syrup that is flavored with cardamom, rosewater, etc.) and another doughnut hole type thing in a yogurt sauce. All and all pretty damn tasty!

It's finally here! Departure day! I leave the comfort of Elise and Matt's apartment in approximately an hour and depart from San Francisco. A quick layover in Newark, where I will meet 7 or 8 other students from my program, and then off to New Delhi on a 14 hour flight.  Let's just hope I will be able to sleep on the plane to pass the time! I will hopefully have photos to post sometime next week.
